My Neighbour Totoro is a 1988 Japanese animation directed and written by Hayao Miyazaki, Which is about a father and 2 girls ( Mei, Satsuki) moving into an old house near the hospital where the mother is recovering from an illness. When moving in, Satsuki and Mei found tiny animated dust creatures called susuwatari which live in dark places, when the family  has settled in the creatures leave. When Satsuki goes to school, Mei has to stay at home with her father (who has the day off) Mei explores in the garden when she sees two white spirits holding a sack of acorns by the house, she follows them which leads into a hedge that leads her to camphor Tree in the middle of the forest. That's when she meets the bigger Spirit ( Totoro). When Satsuki finished school, she looks for Mei which she finds her sleeping on the grass. When Mei wakes up, she tries to let Satsuki see Totoro but the entrance is blocked, as Mei is upset her father comforts her saying that Totoro is a keeper of the forest and that he will reveal himself when he wants to.

On one rainy day, Mei and Satsuki were waiting for their father at the bus stop but the 2 girls get worried as their father hasn't arrived on time. When waiting for him, Mei gets falls asleep and Totoro appears having a leaf on his head to protect him from the rain, so Satsuki offers her umbrella and in return Totoro gives her acorns and seeds wrapped in a leaf. Suddenly a Cat Bus appears and Totoro boards the bus, shortly after her father arrives.

When getting back home, Mei and Satsuki plant the seeds in the garden and day after they get woken up by the sight of Totoro and the two spirits dancing around the planted seeds which the two girls join in. Dancing around the seeds start growing into a massive tree, Totoro takes Mei, Satsuki and the two spirits on the ride to the top of the tree, The next day the tree had disappeared but the seeds did sprout and the two girls weren't sure if they were dreaming.

Satsuki found out that the trip to Yasuko has been cancelled because of her mothers treatment, Satsuki tells Mei the bad news and she doesn't take the news well which leads them having a massive argument. Satsuki runs off and Mei decides to walk to the hospital bring a fresh corn to her mother.

When Mei disappeared, the neighbours and Satsuki go looking for her finding a child's shoe in the pond. Satsuki runs to the Camphor tree begging Totoro for help, Totoro appears and summons the cat bus which takes her to Mei who is lost

.Recused her, the Cat Bus takes the girls to the hospital where the placed the corn on the windowsill and sat on the tree listening to the parents discussion about the treatment. when the girls leave the parents notice the ear of corn.
